Incense Making + Grief/Love Workshop Sun Mar 22nd Victoria

$30.00 - $60.00

Date: Sunday March 22nd
Location: Heart and Hands Health Collective / Green Muse Herbs, 2612 Quadra St. Victoria BC
Time: 1pm-4pm

Join herbalist and medicinal herb farmer Marae in a hands-on workshop crafting hand-rolled incense cones. We will be exploring plants specific to tending and honouring the processes of grief and love, and the benefits of plant smoke as a mantle for healing. We will be discussing the complexities of personal grief, as well as socioecological grief and offering plants to support the physiological and energetic processes.

We will be working with locally grown and farm-direct herbs, berries, roots, floral waters, juices, fruits, herb resins and honey. Participants will learn blending and hand rolling methods and take their custom cones home.

We will explore both the physiological and spiritual benefits of plant smoke, discussing its use across various cultural and historical contexts. The workshop will create space for conversations around the respectful use of plant smoke, acknowledging the issues of appropriation of First Nations indigenous sacred plants and smudging practices. We will highlight the importance of culturally relevant and respectful alternatives for folks of mixed ancestries. Marae will provide tips on at-home growing and sourcing ingredients in an urban setting.

If you’d like to work with a specific culturally significant-to you plant, you are welcome to bring it along! Tools will be available for grinding herbs during the session.

MASKING REQUIRED - we are prioritizing the health and safety of our staff and attendees. If you forget yours, the clinic will have medical masks available for $2.
