Herbs for the Heat Workshop: Sat July 25th

$15.00 - $35.00

Join herbalist and medicinal herb farmer, Marae of Viriditas Apothecary in a hands-on outdoor workshop exploring plants to soothe the impacts of the summer heat. We will be discussing the physiological and emotional impacts of heat exposure, offering herbal and dietary protocols to cool and soothe. This workshop will nurture a safe environment for folks to discuss ecological grief and climate anxiety, and Marae will be sharing plants she uses often with patients in this context, as well as sharing tools and practices to connect with plants directly to help expand our capacity and sense of safety.

We will primarily be focusing on herbs to support all body systems in their capacity to respond to heat and agitation, with a focus on the lungs, digestive system, kidneys, skin, adrenals and nervous system. We will be drop dosing single herbs while exploring their materia medica, as well as sampling decoctions, chilled teas and various preparations to implement into daily care plans. Marae will also cover dietary and lifestyle tips to help with heat and hydration management.

We will be beginning the session with a meditation to bring us into our intergenerational and cellular familiarity with plants and the natural world. Marae will be introducing some specific herbs she works with around ecological grief and overwhelm.  We will explore tools to connect with plants as teachers and guides through experiences of anxiety and uncertainty. We will also be exploring plant-human relationship as a mantle for healing and connectivity to our belonging–returning to kinship and stewardship with our environment, ecologies and wider sense of interconnectivity and safety.
